SIG Sauer P365

The SIG Sauer P365 Micro-Compact was a game-changing introduction to the world of concealed carry pistols. SIG Sauer proved that with the right design and engineering, a subcompact pistol could hold more than 7 or 8 rounds.

With a standard magazine capacity of 10 rounds (or 12 with the extended magazine and in the P365 XL), the SIG P365 was one of the first subcompacts to offer the firepower of a mid-size without compromising on dimensions, becoming America’s best-selling handgun since its original introduction in 2018.

Initial Considerations

Nearly every authority on the subject, such as the US Concealed Carry Association or the  National Rifle Association, agrees on the fundamental purposes of a proper concealed carrying holster: secure retention of your firearm, concealability, accessibility, and comfort.

Secure retention is the most critical element. A holster that cannot be relied on to keep your gun in place is practically worthless. A budget-minded gun owner may be tempted not to overspend and purchase a cheap holster made of nylon, often advertising their universal nature. These holsters are too frail to retain a handgun securely, are easily worn out by the elements, and will eventually fail.

Concealability refers to the ability of your holster to hide your firearm from view properly. For the best results, using an inside the waistband (IWB) holster is by far the best solution; a good  IWB holster should almost completely disappear under your shirt, leaving only a belt clip visible.

A good holster should also prevent your firearm from printing, which can telegraph to other people that you’re armed, in turn defeating the point of carrying concealed.

Accessibility refers to how easily you can reach your handgun relative to your holster’s resting position and orientation. Proper positioning is the element of carrying a holstered firearm subject to both personal preference and practice.

There are many positions. The two most common are strong-side hip carrying (the holster sits on the side of your dominant hand) and appendix carry (the holster rests in front of your body, against your appendix).

A third method is also SOB carry (the holster rests behind your body, against the small of your back). Although this method has very high concealability, especially when inside the waistband, it is not the safest or most accessible.

An SOB carry holster makes your firearm rest almost directly over your spine, requires you to reach behind your back to draw, and usually has a very aggressive cant, almost parallel with the ground. This carrying style presents several problems; when holstered, you may potentially end up flagging other people with the muzzle; it can be difficult or even impossible to reach if you are sitting or lying on the floor.

But by far, the greatest danger of SOB carry manifests itself if you end up falling on your back for any reason - your firearm risks becoming the hard, solid object responsible for a severe spinal injury.

You may find that your needs can change depending on your daily activities; certain holster positions are more comfortable while standing or walking, while others are more useful when sitting. Experiment and find out which makes for the best balance of accessibility and comfort.

Best SIG P365 IWB Holster

The best holster for the SIG P365 is the  Incognito Concealment P365 IWB holster, a high-quality IWB Kydex holster designed for deep concealed carrying.

If you are unfamiliar with Kydex, it is a thermoplastic material that can be molded to adopt any desired shape. Kydex holsters are molded and cut to the exact shape of your firearm, protecting your trigger guard and ensuring a perfect fit.

Unlike leather holsters,  Kydex holsters do not warp or deform over time, they do not require special care or maintenance, they are weather- and sweat-resistant, and they will resist the abrasion and impacts of daily use.

The Incognito Concealment P365 IWB holster is constructed using thin, low-profile Kydex sheets, with a thickness of 0.080”, ideal for concealed carrying while still providing adequate durability and rigidity.

It also features an adjustable metal belt clip, allowing the user to modify the holster’s cant and orientation. And as with other Incognito Concealment holsters, the P365 IWB holster can be ordered in right-handed or left-handed configuration, with a 1.5” or 1.75” belt clip in one of 30 different colors and patterns.

Best SIG P365 SAS Holster

Released in October 2019, the SIG Sauer P365 SAS is a variant of the original P365 featuring many changes aimed at further improving the handgun’s concealability, making it an even better concealed carry option.

The most notable of these changes is the elimination of traditional front and rear sights. Instead, the pistol features a single, fiber optic SIG Anti Snag (SAS) sight, directly embedded into the specially shaped “melted” slide, leaving nothing on top of the slide that could snag into something. This unusual sight sits flush, very low into the slide, giving the feel of a very low bore axis height.

The P365 SAS also features a ported slide and barrel, reducing muzzle rise and making it easier to control when shooting.

Because the P365 SAS doesn’t have traditional sights, it is 0.2” shorter than the regular model. However, you need not worry about purchasing a different holster; the reduced height is the only dimensional difference with the standard P365.

All the other dimensions - overall length, barrel length, and width - are identical to those of the original P365, meaning the P365 SAS will fit in a holster designed for the P365, including the Incognito Concealment P365 IWB holster.

Best SIG P365 XL Holster

The  P365 XL was released to the public in June 2019 as a slightly larger version of the standard SIG P365. This model accepts either 12-round flush-fit magazines or 15-round extended base plate magazines.

Although still marketed as a Micro-Compact pistol, intended for deep concealed carrying, every part of the handgun is enlarged compared to the regular P365. It has a longer slide and barrel and a slightly taller and wider frame.

Instead of the standard P365’s trigger, the XL employs a SIG X-series flat trigger.

Lastly, the frame features an extended beavertail, protecting against slide bite, and the slide is optics-ready, designed to accept the SIG RomeoZero red dot sight.

Remarkably, the P365 XL’s frame is interchangeable with that of the regular P365, in a manner reminiscent of the modular P320 pistol series, making it possible to enjoy the extended beavertail and the flat trigger but retain the shorter overall dimensions of the standard version.

Although these dimensional differences may not sound like much, they are significant enough that a holster designed for the P365 will not fit the P365 XL.

If Incognito Concealment does not carry holsters for your particular firearm, or if your gun is in a specific configuration that prevents the use of a regular holster, we offer a  custom holster service, ideal for a firearm as modular as the P365 XL.

No matter which make or model, we will make a custom holster to your exact specifications and for any configuration: Right-handed or left-handed, with or without a red dot sight cut, molding for light or laser accessories, muzzle attachments, etc.

An Incognito Concealment  custom holster is a great way to personalize your EDC setup, making your holster as unique as your firearm.
