Best Holsters for Glock 19
Feb 21st 2022
Whether you are carrying openly or concealed, choosing the right carry holster for your handgun is almost as important as selecting the firearm.
Your holster is the only link between your handgun and your body. Even if the gun you selected is ideal for you, the wrong holster can be a liability.
Find out how to select the best holster for one of the most popular handguns in America, the Glock 19.
Initial Considerations
According to the US Concealed Carry Association, a good handgun holster’s first and most important mission is secure retention, regardless of the type, materials, or design.
It may sound obvious, but it is essential to select a holster that keeps your pistol in place until you need to draw, no matter what you’re doing. If the fit is too loose, your handgun is at risk of falling out. If it’s too tight or improper, you may have difficulty unholstering; it may even remain stuck.
Your holster must also protect the trigger, present your handgun consistently in the orientation you find most comfortable, and allow you to unholster quickly and comfortably with one hand.
Holster Materials
The three primary materials used in gun holsters are leather, nylon, and Kydex. Knowing the differences between these materials is critical when considering your holster options.
The traditional holster is made from leather. Leather holsters may have a lot of character - they look, feel, and sometimes even smell great, but they also possess the most drawbacks.
A typical leather holster requires a break-in period, is vulnerable to moisture and sweat, and requires regular leather care and maintenance. In addition, good-quality models are often expensive, and all leather eventually wears out and sags, even with the best care.
Nylon is another common material for gun holsters. This material is thin and inexpensive, often used to make other gear like tactical vests. Unfortunately, it’s also one of the worst materials for handgun holsters; it quickly absorbs oils and moisture and is too flimsy to ensure a secure fit.
Another significant disadvantage of nylon is poor retention. Nylon holsters are typically generic holsters not designed for any particular model. Therefore, they cannot provide your gun with a tight and secure fit.
Kydex is a type of thermoformed plastic-like material, first invented in 1965. Like many other plastic polymers, it is a lightweight yet durable material. If you see a holster referred to as a “polymer holster,” it is most likely made of Kydex. Kydex is rigid, impact- and abrasion-resistant, making it capable of standing up to all kinds of abuse.
A typical Kydex holster fits one handgun model perfectly (or a few models of similar dimensions). It does not deform even after holstering and unholstering thousands of times. Best of all, high-quality Kydex holsters are affordable and used by law enforcement agencies since the early 1970s.
Kydex is the best material for a belt holster. It offers the durability, rigidity, and secure fit expected of a good holster while also being affordable and within reach of any shooter. Many Kydex holsters are also customizable, offering adjustable retention, cant angle, and ride height.
IWB Holsters
Inside the waistband holsters (IWB) are designed for concealed carrying. An IWB holster is intended to fit on the inside of your pants. When carried correctly, your shirt completely conceals your handgun, and the only visible part of your holster should be the metal belt clip.
This holster style is ideal if you wish to get maximum concealment at the cost of some ease of access; you need to clear your shirt off your holster with one hand and draw with the other. This method requires a fair amount of practice to pull off quickly and consistently, but with practice, you can achieve a fast and smooth draw.
Incognito Concealment Glock 19/23/32/19x/45 IWB holster provides the most secure fit for concealed carrying your Glock 19. This open-ended Kydex holster features a pancake design, providing you with secure, passive retention of your firearm. The trigger guard shield is designed to improve safety without compromising access to the pistol grip.
The adjustable retention screw allows you to customize the tightness of your holster’s fit, allowing you to set it as tight or loose as you need it.
The metal belt clip possesses adjustable screws to change the cant of your holster. Proper cant and orientation can significantly improve your concealment holster’s comfort levels and ease of unholstering. The right gun belt and cover garments can even reduce printing and enhance your holster’s concealability.
OWB Holsters
Outside the waistband holsters (OWB) are most suitable for open carrying and duty carry. For example, the standard duty holsters issued to your local law enforcement agency are typically OWB holsters. If you’re looking for a more traditional holster style, OWB is for you.
If an IWB holster is best suited for maximum concealment, an OWB holster is designed first and foremost for comfort. A pistol carried OWB is typically much easier to access and allows for the comfortable carrying of larger handguns, such as full-sizes.
Performing a quick draw from an OWB holster is also significantly easier, as you do not have to clear a tucked cover garment to access your handgun.
The drawback of an OWB holster is that unless you intend to carry openly, you may have to give extra consideration to your choice of clothing. Since your holster will be on the outside of your pants, you may have to wear a jacket or a vest to conceal it and ensure it doesn’t print too obviously, which may not always be an option.
Incognito Concealment Glock 19/23/32/19x/45 OWB holster is the best OWB holster for Glock 19. Like the Glock 19 IWB holster, this model is also a Kydex pancake holster with secure trigger guard shielding, ideal for preventing an accidental discharge.
However, this model also features two metal belt loops and a closed configuration, ensuring maximum retention of your firearm at all times.
Paddle Holsters
A paddle holster is a particular type of OWB handgun holster that doesn’t use belt loops but instead employs a paddle: A rigid, flat plastic clip designed to fit around the user’s belt or waistband. Besides the fastening method, paddle holsters offer the same advantages as standard OWB holsters: Comfort, ease of access, and suitability with handguns of all sizes.
Paddle holsters are typically smaller and more convenient than conventional OWB holsters because they can be quickly installed and removed. This naturally adjustable design is ideal for shooters who need to change their carry position frequently in their daily life.
Paddle holsters are fastened to your waist via friction; you must ensure the paddle is firmly in place and that you cannot wiggle it out of position easily. When properly installed, a paddle holster provides quick access and excellent retention of your weapon.

As with the OWB model, this type of holster features a closed configuration for maximum retention, but with a more compact design, closer to the IWB model. This high-quality holster also features contouring to fit your body’s natural curves and provide additional comfort.
